Philippines and Japan coastguard conduct anti-piracy exercise

A Japan Coastguardsman rappels from a helicopter in a rescue scenario during the Philippine Coastguard and Japan Coast guard Maritime Security Joint Training Exercises at the helipad of PCG vessel Pampanga at the waters of Manila bay February 19, 2009.

The event aims to “further enhance the capabilities” of both the PCG and JCG in their fight against piracy and armed robbery in their respective territorial waters. It also seeks to establish “friendship and mutual understanding” among the heads of Asian Coast Guard agencies, which will witness the joint exercise.

The training consisted of lectures and practical exercises on Boarding inspections, countermeasures against piracy and armed robbery, ship operation of coastguard patrol vessels and participation in combined exercises.
