LONGEST BOODLE FIGHT IN THE WORLD

In a boodle fight, Filipino foods are served on top of leaves laid out on a series of long tables. The participants line both sides of the table and grab the food with bare hands. Boodle fighting promotes unity and bonding among participants.

The city of Taguig breaks the record for the longest boodle fight in the world as they celebrate the feast of Sta. Ana yesterday morning. The the boodle fight is done at heart of the Taguig City church and seen all through the street at 2.8 kilometers.

The driver of the mitsubishi adventure surrenders to the police while the victims with injuries were rushed to the Ospital ng Manila in Quirino Avenue by a media pickup vehicle.

THE AFTERMATH

At least 17 people were injured while hundreds of residents lost their homes in a fire that hit a squatter's compound in Guadalupe Viejo in Makati City shortly after midnight Saturday.


There are 400 families who are left homeless by the fire that quickly spread to adjacent houses made of light materials in a shanty compound of Guadalupe Viejo in Makati after midnight July 6, 2008. A total of 110 shanties were razed to the ground before the fire was declared under control by responding firefighters.

BUKLOD BAKOD

Dubbed as "Buklod Bakod", the farmers armed with hammers build fences around the 507-hectare agricultural land that is conveted to mining. The fencing project thwart future attemps by Asturias Chemical Industries, a mining company.

Hundreds of farmer-beneficiaries in the villages of Baha and Talibayog here have started building fences over a 507-hectare contested property, a move which they said would protect their farmlands from a mining firm.

NATIONAL DISASTER CONSCIOUSNESS MONTH

STUDENTS demonstrate the "duck", "cover" and "hold" as they evacuate to safety at the Phililippine School for the Deaf grounds in Pasay City yesterday morning. The National Dissaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) through the Office of National Defense (OND) and the Dep ED, has identified the Phil. School for the Deaf in Pasay to be the venue of the earthquake drill in observance of the NATIONAL DISASTER CONSCIOUSNESS MONTH. This will educate and increase the level of awareness of students in earthquake emergency situations.

TOBACCO ADS BAN

Starting today, all forms of advertising on tobacco products are prohibited, as mandated by Republic Act 9211, the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003. Section 22 of this law states: "Beginning 1 July 2008, all forms of tobacco advertising in mass media shall be prohibited, except tobacco advertisements placed inside the premises of point-of- sale establishments." In January, 2007, the law mandated a total ban on tobacco advertising on TV.

A mother of two smokes a cigarette in Tondo Manila, ignoring the second hand smoke that might affect her children and might cause lung cancer. The Department of Health (DoH) yesterday called on the government and all sectors to work toward more effective prevention and control of tobacco related diseases in the country.

THE BUDDHIST WORLD

Buddhism is named after its founder, Gautama, prince and heir-apparent of a ruling family in Nepal around 600BCE, who eventually became known as 'the Buddha' (the Enlightened One).

A monk’s devotion is one and the same as his daily goal, which is to follow Buddha's teachings throughout daily life.

Their life and customs are different and unique, and each has a spiritual meaning. There is a certain code the monks must follow and certain rules that must be obeyed. Their daily life follows a strict schedule, and each monk's life revolves around meditation, the study of scriptures, and the taking apart in ceremonies. His daily life involves interaction with the community around him and with his fellow monks.

The Buddhist monkhood in village society provided all males time and opportunity to perfect their moral being, to seek enlightenment, and to preach the Dharma to the community. The institution of the monkhood can be seen as an outlet for the community's desire to meritorious deeds.

Buddhist monks spend most of their daily life meditating, chanting or making offerings. Monks use meditation to free their mind from passion, aggression, ignorance, jealousy and pride. The art of meditation allows ones natural wisdom to shine through.
