DEATH AND DESTRUCTION OF TYPHOON REMING

Albay is famous for its pride "Mayon Volcano". However a typhoon smashed Bicol with deadly winds and mudflow. It was one of the dealiest typhoon that hits Albay. A lot of people died and thousands homeless when muddy waters and boulders crashed villages.

Deposits of mud and boulders cascaded and boulders hit the villages near Mayon Volcano. The mudflow was triggered by the huge volume of rainwater that Reming unleashed as early as wednesday. People were trapped inside their houses and died. Waters originating from the gullies of Mayon Volcano entered Barangay Busay in Albay furiously and left people to die. The typhoon toppled powerlines and communication lines. When we arrived in Albay, smart telecoms was our partners in communication.

Those affected were the Barangays outside the 8 kilometer danger zone of Mayon Volcano. The mudflow did not normally reach the 10-kilometer danger zone of Mayon. Rescue teams, red cross and other sectors helped out in securing the area and provided assistance to those people in need. There are several evacuation centers.
